Citizens across Punjab could be in for a rare five-day holiday stretch, as reports suggest that the Punjab government is likely to announce a public holiday on Wednesday, February 4, on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat.
If the official notification is issued, government offices, private institutions, educational institutions, and businesses may observe five consecutive holidays, creating excitement among the public.
Citizens Welcome the Possibility of Extended Break
Residents have expressed happiness over the potential long break, saying it would allow them to observe religious rituals and also spend quality time with family.
However, authorities have clarified that no official notification has been issued yet, and the final decision is still awaited.
Basant Holiday Already Announced in Lahore
Earlier, the Punjab government approved a local holiday in Lahore on February 6 on the recommendation of the district administration, to facilitate Basant celebrations in a safe and organized manner.
With Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday already aligning as holidays, Lahore residents are set to enjoy a four-day long weekend regardless of the Shab-e-Barat decision.
Friday Also Declared a Holiday
Officials confirmed that Friday has also been declared a holiday, in addition to the already scheduled weekend breaks. The move aims to reduce traffic pressure and ensure public safety during Basant festivities.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner Lahore has advised that children under 18 should participate in Basant celebrations only under family supervision, to ensure safety and discipline during the traditional festival.
