Sindh Implements Mobile Phone Ban and Counselling Services in Colleges

The Sindh College Education Department has announced major reforms for provincial colleges, placing student welfare and campus discipline at the center of its policy overhaul. A formal notification banning unnecessary mobile phone use on campuses is expected soon, while a new counselling program will be launched by hiring education experts, bureaucrats, and professionals to guide students.

Crackdown on Teacher Absenteeism

During a meeting chaired by Secretary of College Education Nadeem Memon, officials reviewed issues including teacher absenteeism, weak monitoring mechanisms, and substandard college infrastructure. It was revealed that 44 male and 36 female teachers had been absent for prolonged periods. Legal action has been initiated, with cases forwarded to the Chief Secretary of Sindh and public notices scheduled to be published.

Stronger Monitoring and Infrastructure Oversight

To improve governance, the department approved the formation of an autonomous Monitoring and Evaluation Directorate, merging existing inspection wings. This new body will strictly monitor attendance, infrastructure quality, and academic standards. A College Infrastructure Development Unit will also be established to manage all future development projects through professional consulting firms selected via national and international tenders.

Student Welfare and Outreach

Alongside the mobile phone ban and counselling services, the department will implement the “Each One, Teach One” initiative to bring out-of-school children back into the education system, further emphasizing student development and outreach.

Zero Tolerance for Negligence

Secretary Nadeem Memon stressed that the department will allow no compromise in implementation. Officers failing to perform their duties will face strict disciplinary action, ensuring accountability at all levels.

These measures signal a significant step toward improving the quality, discipline, and welfare of students in Sindh’s colleges.
