The Punjab government has announced a major relief initiative for low-income families ahead of Ramadan, bringing welcome news for millions struggling with rising inflation.
Under the Rs. 47 billion Nigehban Ramadan Package, the provincial government aims to support 42 million beneficiaries across the province, according to Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari.
Who Will Benefit From the Ramadan Relief Package?
The program is specifically designed for individuals earning less than Rs. 45,000 per month, ensuring targeted support for the most vulnerable segments of society during the holy month.
Azma Bukhari stated that Ramadan Sahulat Bazaars will be set up five days before the start of Ramadan, providing essential food items at subsidized rates.
Rs. 10,000 Cash Assistance Through Rashan Cards
As part of the initiative, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz will provide Rs. 10,000 in cash assistance to eligible families through Rashan Cards, helping households manage essential expenses during Ramadan.
The government says this step will directly reduce the financial burden on low-income earners amid rising food prices.
Strict Action Against Hoarding and Profiteering
The provincial minister made it clear that the government will adopt a zero-tolerance policy against hoarding and profiteering.
“No one will be allowed to exploit the public during Ramadan,” Azma Bukhari said, adding that strict monitoring and enforcement measures will be in place to ensure fair pricing.
Relief Measures Amid Rising Inflation
With inflation continuing to impact household budgets, the Punjab government says the Nigehban Ramadan Package is part of a broader strategy to protect citizens during critical periods.
Officials believe the initiative will provide timely relief, improve access to essential commodities, and promote price stability throughout the holy month.
