To promote an environment-friendly and modern public transport system, authorities have decided to conduct a feasibility study for an Electric Tram project in Islamabad at the earliest.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by the Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA). The meeting was attended by Member Administration, Member Planning & Design, Member Finance, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, and other senior CDA officials.
Discussion on Electric Tram and E-Bus Infrastructure
During the meeting, participants discussed the practical implementation and infrastructure requirements for Electric Tram and Electric Bus projects across the federal capital.
It was agreed that a comprehensive feasibility study would be carried out soon to assess the execution of the Electric Tram project throughout Islamabad.
Modern Infrastructure and Intelligent Transport System
Under the proposed Electric Tram project, the following facilities will be developed:

Dedicated tram depots

Parking areas

Charging infrastructure

Modern maintenance and repair facilities
The project will be implemented in line with Intelligent Transport System (ITS) standards. Officials stated that the tram service will be comfortable, fully modern, and environmentally friendly, and will be integrated with existing transit systems in the city.
Digital, Cashless & Carbon Credit Planning
The CDA Chairman directed that:

The entire transport system should be fully digital and cashless

Carbon credit acquisition must be ensured during the planning phase

The Electric Tram should be connected to key areas of Islamabad, especially Islamabad International Airport

Updated ridership data and future demand forecasts should be considered in the feasibility study
A Historic Step for Islamabad
The CDA Chairman said that this historic initiative would not only provide modern and affordable travel facilities to citizens but also help reduce environmental pollution.
He emphasized that all available resources are being utilized to offer efficient, low-cost, and eco-friendly transportation to the residents of the federal capital.
