Shab-e-Barat Holiday Update: No Official Announcement Yet for Schools

Shab-e-Barat will be observed across Pakistan on Thursday, February 3, 2026. However, no official notification has yet been issued regarding a public holiday for schools and educational institutions.

According to earlier expectations, a holiday notification was likely to be announced for Friday, February 4, but authorities have not confirmed any decision so far.

Religious Significance of Shab-e-Barat

Every year, Muslims in Pakistan observe Shab-e-Barat with great devotion and spiritual enthusiasm. Special Quran recitations, seminars, and religious gatherings are organized in mosques and other venues to highlight the importance of this blessed night.

This year, the month of Sha’ban began in Pakistan on January 21, 2026, as announced by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. Accordingly, Shab-e-Barat falls on February 3, 2026.

Holiday Status in Previous Years

Last year, the Sindh government had announced a holiday for schools and educational institutions on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat. However, no such announcement has been made so far this year.

Officials have stated that if a holiday is approved, a formal government notification will be issued.

Spiritual Importance

Shab-e-Barat falls on the night between 14th and 15th of Sha’ban and holds great significance in Islamic tradition. Muslims believe that on this night, Allah Almighty decides matters related to destiny, sustenance, and life.

People spend the night in prayers, worship, and supplication, seeking forgiveness and blessings.
