Punjab Higher Education Commission Proposes Huge Salary Increases

The Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) has proposed a significant salary hike of 75–85% for its employees. This move comes after years of frozen pay scales, aiming to modernize compensation for senior officials and staff.

Proposed Salary Details

  • Director: Could receive up to PKR 700,000 per month

  • Director General: Proposed salary of PKR 647,000 per month

  • Other senior officials: Expected to earn between PKR 400,000–600,000 per month

The proposed increase would affect 114 employees, resulting in an additional PKR 28–30 crore annually in payroll expenses.

Funding Concerns

Sources indicate that this proposal is being advanced without formal approval from the Finance Department or the Higher Education Department. Meanwhile, critical provincial projects in education, healthcare, and infrastructure are reportedly suffering from funding shortages.

Current Benefits for PHEC Staff

PHEC employees already enjoy generous perks, including:

  • 150 liters fuel allowance

  • Comprehensive medical facilities

  • Annual 20% increment

These benefits are higher than the basic pay scale of most provincial bureaucrats, raising concerns about equity and resource allocation.
