Nuclear experts have issued a serious warning, stating that humanity is now extremely close to a global catastrophe. According to the non-profit organization Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, the Doomsday Clock has been set to just 85 seconds before midnight for the year 2026, indicating an unprecedented level of global danger.
This setting represents one of the closest points humanity has ever reached to symbolic “doomsday,” reflecting rising risks from nuclear conflict, military expansion, and geopolitical tensions.
Rising Threats to Global Security
The organization’s Science and Security Board (SASB) has highlighted several major threats, including nuclear war, a renewed global arms race, and the militarization of space.
Experts say major world powers are once again entering a dangerous competition, developing more advanced and destructive nuclear weapons. This escalation is increasing the risk of accidental or intentional conflict.
Concerns Over Space Militarization
One member of the SASB expressed serious concerns over former US President Donald Trump’s proposed “Golden Dome” defense project. According to experts, placing weapons in space could push the world toward space warfare, triggering strong reactions from countries like Russia and China.
Such developments could further destabilize global security and increase international tensions.
Collapse of Arms Control Agreements
Experts also warned that if arms control agreements between Russia and the United States continue to weaken or collapse, both countries may intensify their nuclear weapons programs.
This could lead to a new and more dangerous nuclear arms race, posing a severe threat to humanity’s future.
Call for Immediate Global Action
Scientists emphasized that without urgent and responsible action from world leaders, nothing may stop the Doomsday Clock from reaching midnight.
They warned that if global powers fail to make serious diplomatic and security decisions, “doomsday” may no longer remain symbolic but could become a tragic reality.
