The Punjab government has taken a major step toward modernizing its education system by introducing Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a new subject in all public schools across the province. The initiative aims to prepare students for the rapidly evolving digital world and future job markets.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced the launch of the AI education program through her official social media account, calling it a significant milestone in Punjab’s educational development.
Equal Access to Digital Learning for All Students
According to the chief minister, the program is designed to ensure that every student, without discrimination, gains access to modern technological and analytical skills. This approach aims to reduce the digital divide between urban and rural schools.
By integrating AI into the curriculum, students will be introduced to:
-
Basic programming concepts
-
Data analysis fundamentals
-
Problem-solving techniques
-
Ethical use of technology
AI Teachers and Master Trainers
Under the new initiative, each public school will have access to an AI-trained teacher, supported by a network of 1,000 AI Master Trainers. These trainers have been prepared to guide fellow teachers and ensure uniform teaching standards across the province.
The complete AI curriculum is expected to be fully integrated within 60 days, making Punjab one of the first provinces in Pakistan to implement such a program at scale.
Preparing Students for the Future Economy
Education experts believe that early exposure to artificial intelligence will help students develop critical thinking, creativity, and digital literacy, which are essential for future careers in technology, science, and innovation.
The government also plans to align this initiative with international education standards, enabling Punjab’s students to compete globally.
A Historic Step in Digital Education
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz described the project as a “historic digital leap”, emphasizing Punjab’s leadership role in education reform. Officials say this move will strengthen the province’s position as a hub for modern learning and skill development.
More details regarding textbooks, assessment methods, and teacher training programs are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
