Pakistan Post is set to achieve full digitalization by January 2027 as part of a comprehensive reform initiative aimed at modernizing postal services and bringing them in line with international standards.
The project, officially titled the Automation of Post Office Project, has been launched by the Ministry of Communications and is being financed by the Export-Import Bank of Korea. This initiative marks one of the most significant upgrades in the history of Pakistan’s postal system.
Replacing Manual Operations with Digital Systems
Currently, many post offices across the country still rely on manual and paper-based procedures, which often result in service delays and record-keeping issues. Under the new project, these outdated systems will be replaced with a fully integrated digital platform.
The modernization plan includes:
-
Installation of modern IT terminals
-
Deployment of specialized postal management software
-
Secure connectivity across all branches
-
Centralized data systems for real-time operations
Training and Technical Support for Staff
To ensure smooth implementation, Pakistan Post employees will receive comprehensive technical training. The project also provides ongoing maintenance and operational support, helping staff adapt to digital workflows efficiently.
This approach aims to reduce resistance to change and improve overall service delivery.
Improved Services for Customers
Once completed, the digital system will significantly enhance major postal functions, including:
-
Mail and parcel tracking
-
Financial and money transfer services
-
Record management
-
Internal administration
Customers will be able to access real-time updates, faster processing, and more transparent services, improving trust in the postal network.
Reducing Errors and Delays
By replacing manual processes with automated systems, the reform is expected to minimize human errors, reduce lost records, and shorten delivery timelines. Automated workflows will also help monitor performance and detect service bottlenecks.
Nationwide IT Infrastructure Upgrade
Under this initiative, all post offices will be equipped with modern digital infrastructure, including secure computer terminals, reliable internet connectivity, and centralized management platforms. This will enable seamless data sharing and transaction processing across Pakistan.
Officials believe this transformation will strengthen Pakistan Post’s role in e-commerce, logistics, and financial inclusion in the coming years.
