4 Day Holiday in Early February for Basant Celebrations

Residents of Lahore are set to enjoy an extended weekend in early February after authorities announced four consecutive holidays to facilitate safe and peaceful Basant celebrations. Following the declaration of a local holiday on February 6, the city will observe holidays on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, allowing citizens to participate in festivities without disruption.

According to official sources, a proposal was initially considered to declare a holiday on February 5. However, after review, the Punjab government confirmed February 6 as an official holiday. Combined with already scheduled weekly off-days, this decision has created a four-day break, offering citizens a long weekend.

Safety Measures and Government Guidelines for Basant

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Lahore has advised that children under the age of 18 should celebrate Basant only in the presence of their families to ensure discipline and safety. Authorities have assured citizens that all necessary arrangements have been made to maintain law and order during the traditional festival.

Law enforcement agencies have divided Lahore into Red, Yellow, and Green zones based on security risk levels. Sensitive and densely populated areas have been classified as Red Zones, where strict restrictions will be enforced. Yellow Zones will have moderate controls, while Green Zones are considered relatively safe.

Advanced Monitoring and Strict Action Against Violations

Police have announced the use of modern surveillance technology, including drone cameras, social media monitoring, and dedicated control rooms, to oversee activities during Basant. Strict action will be taken against those involved in illegal practices such as aerial firing, rooftop drinking, and other prohibited activities.

Officials emphasized that these measures aim to ensure that citizens can enjoy Basant in a secure and peaceful environment. Authorities have urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and follow safety guidelines.
