PCB Confirms T20 World Cup 2026 Participation, Plans Strong Protest Against ICC

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that Pakistan remains on track to participate in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 according to schedule. However, the board has also decided to pursue a formal protest over what it considers unfair treatment by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The development comes after PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi held a high-level meeting with Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, where the issue was discussed in detail.

PM Directs Resolution at Highest Level

In an official statement, Naqvi described the meeting as “productive” and said he briefed the Prime Minister on the ICC-related concerns. The Prime Minister reportedly directed that the matter be resolved through proper channels while keeping all options open.

Naqvi added that it was agreed the final decision will be taken either on Friday or next Monday, indicating that a clear stance is expected very soon.

Concerns Over Inconsistent ICC Policies

The controversy intensified after Pakistan raised questions about the uneven application of ICC rules. PCB officials highlighted that Bangladesh was removed from the tournament due to security concerns about travelling to India, while India had previously been allowed to play an ICC event without visiting Pakistan, with alternative arrangements made.

According to PCB sources, this difference in treatment has been viewed as discriminatory and damaging to Pakistan’s cricketing interests.

Financial and Sporting Impact Under Review

Insiders suggest that the PCB has carefully been evaluating the financial and sporting consequences of any major decision. These include potential losses in participation revenue, broadcasting income, sponsorship deals, and the overall commercial value of Pakistan’s involvement in major ICC tournaments.

At the same time, the board is mindful of protecting Pakistan’s position in global cricket.

Press Conference Expected Soon

Mohsin Naqvi is expected to hold a press conference in the coming days to present the PCB’s position in detail. He is likely to announce the final decision once the agreed timeline is reached.

Cricket fans across Pakistan are now awaiting official clarity as the situation develops.
