WASA to Build Two New Water Storage Tanks Using Rs 1 Billion Own Funds

In a significant step to improve water supply in Lahore, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has decided to construct two new water storage tanks using Rs 1 billion from its own-source funds.
The project aims to address persistent water shortages in key areas of the city.

Locations Selected for New Water Tanks

According to sources, the new water storage tanks will be constructed in:

  • Laxmi Chowk

  • University of Engineering and Technology (UET) area

These locations have long faced water supply issues, especially during peak demand hours.

Tender Process and Approvals Underway

WASA has already:

  • Issued tenders for the project

  • Accelerated coordination with relevant departments to obtain necessary NOCs

In Laxmi Chowk, the underground water storage tank will be built at the Dayal Singh College ground, while the UET ground has also been selected for the second tank.

Expected Relief for Residents

WASA officials stated that:

  • The Laxmi Chowk project is expected to resolve a long-standing water shortage

  • Residents living near UET and surrounding localities will also receive significant relief

  • Improved storage capacity will help maintain consistent water pressure and supply

Previous Projects and Future Plans

Officials confirmed that:

  • More than 10 water storage tanks have already been constructed using Punjab government funding

  • The new tanks will further strengthen Lahore’s water infrastructure

Authorities assured that all administrative and technical measures are being taken to ensure timely completion of the project.

Why This Project Matters

With Lahore’s growing population and rising water demand, improved storage facilities are critical to:

  • Reduce supply disruptions

  • Manage peak-time shortages

  • Ensure sustainable water distribution

The project is being seen as a major step toward long-term water management in the city.
