The Punjab government has approved nine major development projects for the Faisalabad Division under the Punjab Development Program (PDP), marking a significant push toward regional infrastructure and public service improvement.
The projects will be implemented across three districts — Faisalabad, Jhang, and Toba Tek Singh — with a combined cost running into billions of rupees, according to officials.
Commissioner Reviews Progress and Sets Clear Deadlines
A high-level meeting to review the progress of the proposed projects was chaired by Commissioner Faisalabad Division Raja Jahangir Anwar. During the meeting, he emphasized the urgent completion of master planning, tendering processes, and award of contracts, warning against unnecessary delays.
He directed that strong coordination be maintained among:
-
Assistant Commissioners
-
NESPAK
-
Local Government Departments
-
Project Management Units
This coordination, he said, is essential to ensure timely execution once work begins.
Development Work to Begin in Double Shifts
The commissioner instructed that development activities should start in double shifts immediately after the completion of planning and award procedures. To ensure transparency and efficiency, he announced that he would personally visit concerned tehsils every week to monitor project implementation.
He further stated that the Chief Minister of Punjab has issued clear instructions to ensure fast and effective execution of all projects under the PDP.
Deputy Commissioners Told to Treat PDP as Top Priority
Commissioner Anwar stressed that Deputy Commissioners must treat the Punjab Development Program as a top priority. He instructed them to closely supervise execution at the district level to avoid delays and cost overruns.
Fire Safety Orders Issued for Multi-Storey Buildings
In a separate meeting, the commissioner issued a one-week deadline for the installation of fire extinguishers in all multi-storey buildings across the division.
He directed Civil Defense and Rescue 1122 to issue notices to:
-
Marquees
-
Hotels and restaurants
-
Shopping malls
-
Industrial units
-
Housing societies
-
Public offices
-
Educational institutions
Strict Action After Deadline
The commissioner ordered mock emergency drills at educational institutions to improve emergency preparedness. He warned that after the one-week deadline, inspections will be carried out, and any non-compliance will result in heavy fines and sealing of buildings.
