The District Education Authority (DEA) of Lahore has announced four-day school holidays for the Basant 2026 festival, along with the auctioning of school rooftops for kite flying in central Lahore.
Government and private schools including Victoria Girls High School, Government High School Delhi Gate, Sheranwala Gate Boys & Girls High School, Mochi Gate Government School, and several others have been selected for the festival activities, pending approval from the Secretary Schools Education Punjab.

Safe Basant Preparations Underway
The Commissioner Lahore, Maryam Khan, along with CCPO Bilal Siddique and CTO Athar Waheed, inaugurated the first safety camp at Azadi Chowk. Through 100 safety camps across the city, free safety rods will be distributed to motorcyclists to prevent accidents during the kite festival. Approximately 1 million rods will be given out to promote public safety.
Advanced Surveillance for Festival Safety
To enforce government guidelines and prevent violations, modern thermal drones will be deployed to monitor the city, including areas prone to metallic kite strings and aerial firing. The Safe City Authority has stated that strict action will be taken against any violations detected via drones.

Commissioner Maryam Khan emphasized that all measures are being implemented to ensure a safe and enjoyable Basant, while CTO Athar Waheed urged citizens to follow guidelines for their own safety.
