Lahore is gearing up to host a three-day Basant festival from February 6 to 8, and city officials have rolled out a set of strict safety measures, including a rule that will directly affect motorcyclists.
Safety Rods Mandatory on All Motorcycles
As part of the “Mehfooz Basant” initiative, motorcycles without safety rods will not be allowed on city roads during the festival. Lahore Commissioner Maryam Khan announced the decision while chairing a meeting with kite flying associations, police officials, and district administration representatives.
Authorities plan to install about one million safety rods through 100 road safety camps across the city. Each camp is expected to fit 50,000 to 60,000 motorcycles daily, ensuring that riders comply with the new regulation.

Kite Flying Regulations
-
Kite flying remains banned until February 6.
-
Manufacturing of kites and related materials is allowed only within Lahore district.
-
Kite sales will begin February 1 and continue until February 8.
-
Only registered manufacturers, traders, and sellers with valid NOCs are permitted to operate.
Enforcement and Violations
Commissioner Maryam Khan warned that violations will lead to strict action. So far, 204 cases have been registered against illegal kite flying. Authorities emphasized the cooperation of citizens and associations to ensure a safe and incident-free Basant festival.
Why This Matters
These measures aim to reduce accidents and injuries during Basant, which has historically seen kite-related accidents and motorcycle hazards. By enforcing safety rods and regulating kite manufacturing and sales, Lahore authorities hope to create a safe, festive environment for all citizens.
