Key Federal Holidays in Punjab

As per the notification, federal public holidays applicable in Punjab include:

  • Kashmir Day: February 5

  • Pakistan Day: March 23

  • Eid-ul-Fitr: March 21–23

  • Youm-e-Takbeer: May 28

  • Eid-ul-Adha: May 27–29

  • Ashura: June 24–25

  • Independence Day: August 14

  • Eid Milad-un-Nabi: August 25

  • Allama Iqbal Day: November 9

  • Quaid-e-Azam Day & Christmas: December 25

  • Boxing Day (Dec 26): For Christian employees only

In addition, bank holidays are observed on January 1, February 18, and July 1.

Optional and Local Holidays

The notification also lists optional holidays:

  • Muslim employees can avail one optional holiday per year.

  • Non-Muslim employees are eligible for three optional holidays annually.

  • Advance approval from the department head is required for optional leaves.

  • District Commissioners have authority to declare two local holidays in their districts.

  • In Lahore, the provincial government will announce any local holidays.
