The Punjab government has announced a major expansion of utility stores across the province to provide affordable and high-quality essential items to citizens.
Under the plan, 30 new utility stores will be constructed at the tehsil level, with contracts already awarded and a completion target of June 30, 2026.
Currently, Punjab has 46 utility stores, serving over 85 million visitors annually. After the expansion, the total number will rise to 154 stores across the province.

Economic and Employment Impact
The expansion will create 15,400 new shops, directly providing jobs to 30,800 people, while benefiting over 184,000 families economically. The government emphasized that the project will also provide small traders with transparent and affordable business facilities.
Officials have directed district administrations to identify government land for new stores and included utility store management in KPIs for deputy commissioners. By fiscal year 2026–27, every tehsil in Punjab is expected to have its own utility store, ensuring easy access to essential goods for all citizens.
