Solar Panel Prices Surge Across Pakistan as Costs Rise Sharply

Solar panel prices have recorded a sudden and significant increase across Pakistan, creating concern among consumers and businesses planning to shift to renewable energy in 2026.

Since the start of the year, prices of imported Chinese solar panels with higher wattage have jumped sharply in local markets, ending the period of declining rates that had encouraged mass adoption.

Solar Panel Prices Surge Across Pakistan as Costs Rise Sharply

Latest Solar Panel Prices in Pakistan (January 2026)

According to market data, average prices have increased by up to Rs. 5,000 per panel, depending on capacity:

  • 585-watt panels:
Increased from Rs. 16,000–17,000 to Rs. 20,000–21,000

  • 645-watt panels:
Increased from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 24,000–25,000

  • 720-watt panels:
Increased from Rs. 22,000–25,000 to Rs. 30,000–35,000

This sudden jump has directly affected residential and commercial solar installation costs nationwide.

Why Solar Panel Prices Are Rising

Speaking on the issue, Saleem Memon, Vice President of the Karachi Electronics Dealers Association, explained that the price hike is being driven by global and local factors.

Key Reasons Behind the Price Increase

  • Rising global prices of silver and copper, key materials used in solar cells

  • Increased manufacturing costs in China

  • Higher import taxes on Chinese solar panels

  • Strong local demand due to rising electricity tariffs

  • Limited price competition as newer solar technologies enter the market

According to industry estimates, the per-watt price of solar panels has risen from Rs. 22 to Rs. 33 over the past five months.

Further Increase Expected in Coming Months

Industry experts warn that the situation may worsen.

If global raw material prices and demand trends continue, per-watt solar panel prices could reach Rs. 40 in the coming months, making new installations significantly more expensive.

Despite this, Pakistan still has large existing inventories due to heavy imports over the past two years, which may temporarily prevent shortages but will not stop price increases.

Solar Batteries Also Getting More Expensive

In addition to panels, solar batteries have also become costlier.

Market data shows:

  • Around 10% increase in solar battery prices over the last month alone

This further raises the overall cost of complete solar power systems for households and businesses.

What This Means for Consumers

The sudden price surge may:

  • Delay solar adoption for new buyers

  • Increase project costs for under-construction installations

  • Push consumers toward smaller systems or phased installations

Experts advise consumers to:

  • Compare prices carefully

  • Verify panel authenticity

  • Avoid panic buying

  • Plan installations strategically
